12m Performance Cruising Catamaran Study Plan

BoatCraft's 12 m catamaran has been designed to offer outstanding cruising performance with comfortable accomodation for up to 8 people for cruising weekends and holidays. It has all the features of a luxury catamaran, cleverly designed into a compact economical craft. It will have particular appeal to both private owners, and to hire fleet operators seeking an economic, spacious, easily handled boat.

A design feature is the rounded bilges combined with smoothly curved hull sides which eliminate the apparent slab sided effect often associated with plywood construction. The boat is built using 13 mm Quickstrip Western Red Cedar planking below the waterline, with 12 mm plywood for the sides, deck, and cabin. Bulkheads are also from plywood or Cortech composite panels, while stringers and other framing are Oregon. This method is quick, fair, and particularly economical.   The hull weight should be around 2500 kg, and has an enormous load capacity with a design displacement to 4700 kg. Cruising speeds of 10 - 12 knots can be anticipated.

  • Overall length 12.00 m
  • Waterline length 11.50 m
  • Maximum beam 7.10 m
  • Waterline beam 6.78 m
  • Draught 0.395 m
  • Hull weight 2500 kg
  • Displacement 4700 kg
  • Midsection freeboard 1.540 m
